Product information

Description

PLUSTEK OpticFilm 8200i SE is a dedicated film and slide scanner offering an optical resolution of 7200 x 7200 DPI with a CCD sensor. Designed to scan up to 36.8 x 25.4 mm frames, it captures 48-bit colour depth files and saves output in JPG, TIFF or PDF formats. The scanner connects and is powered via USB 2.0 and is intended for digitizing 35mm negatives, slides and small film formats for archiving, restoration and reproduction.

Advantages

The OpticFilm 8200i SE combines a high-resolution optical system with advanced illumination and an infrared channel that detects dust and scratches for improved defect removal. Bundled with LaserSoft Imaging’s SilverFast 8 software, it supports multi-exposure capture to increase dynamic range, iSRD® infrared dust and scratch removal, and selective colour correction tools. Its 48-bit colour depth capture provides a wide tonal range useful for restoration and professional archiving.

Suitable for

  • Digitizing 35mm negatives and slides for digital archiving
  • Restoration workflows requiring dust/scratch detection and reduction
  • Photographers and lomographers preparing files for web sharing and printing
  • Photo labs and design studios working with small film formats

Key specifications

  • Optical scanning resolution: 7200 x 7200 DPI
  • Sensor type: CCD
  • Maximum frame size: 36.8 x 25.4 mm
  • Colour depth: 48-bit
  • Output formats: JPG, TIFF, PDF
  • Interface and power: USB 2.0
  • Weight: 1.6 kg
  • Product colour: Black

How to use

Install the bundled SilverFast 8 software on a compatible computer and connect the scanner using the USB 2.0 cable. Place negatives or slides into the appropriate holder, preview the frame in SilverFast and use the WorkflowPilot to step through adjustments. Use Multi-Exposure® to capture additional shadow detail when high dynamic range is required, and enable iSRD® to detect dust and scratches via the infrared channel prior to scanning. Choose the desired output format (JPG, TIFF or PDF) and appropriate colour depth before starting the final scan.

Usage recommendations

For best results, clean film holders before use, work in a dust-reduced environment, and use SilverFast’s preview and automatic functions to fine-tune exposure and colour. When restoring older or damaged negatives, enable the infrared dust and scratch removal and consider Multi-Exposure® to reduce noise and improve shadow detail.

Film scanning: Device made for scanning photographic film directly into a computer without the use of any intermediate printmaking. It provides several benefits over using a flatbed scanner to scan in a print of any size: the photographer has direct control over cropping and aspect ratio from the original, unmolested image on film; and many film scanners have special software or hardware that removes scratches and film grain and improves color reproduction from film.

The colour depth is either the number of bits used to indicate the color of a single pixel, in a bitmapped image or video frame buffer, or the number of bits used for each color component of a single pixel. High-end laptops have 24-bit colour depth.
