Description

Polymaker PolyLite™ LW-PLA (Black, 800 g, 1.75 mm) is a lightweight, pre-foamed PLA filament for FDM 3D printing. It is formulated to print with settings similar to regular PLA while producing parts that weigh about half as much. PolyLite™ LW-PLA is pre-foamed (passive foaming), so it does not rely on in-nozzle expansion during extrusion and can be printed at relatively low temperatures for higher surface quality.

Advantages

PolyLite™ LW-PLA delivers lightweight parts without the need to change most standard PLA print settings. Because it is already foamed, printing can be done at lower temperatures (approx. 190–210°C), which reduces stringing and surface defects compared with active foaming filaments that require very high extrusion temperatures. The material retains good rigidity and is easy to print, making it suitable for functional prototypes and lightweight structures.

How to use

Load the 1.75 mm PolyLite™ LW-PLA filament into your FDM printer and set the nozzle temperature between 190°C and 210°C and bed temperature between 30°C and 50°C. Use typical PLA print speeds (25–60 mm/s) and enable part cooling fan. Apply standard retraction settings adjusted for your extruder type (approximately 3 mm/40 mm/s for direct drive or 6 mm/60 mm/s for Bowden). No special high-temperature tuning is required because the filament is pre-foamed; printing at the lower end of the temperature range will generally improve surface finish.

For best results, increase slight retraction compared with standard PLA settings, keep the part cooling fan on, and dry the filament at 55°C for 6 hours only if the filament has absorbed moisture. PolyLite™ LW-PLA is suitable for applications where reduced weight and maintained stiffness are important, such as RC plane parts.
