Description

PolyLite™ LW-PLA is a lightweight, pre-foamed PLA filament that prints with settings similar to regular PLA while delivering approximately half the weight. This passive-foamed material does not expand actively during extrusion; its cellular structure is formed before printing, which allows consistent, low-density parts without requiring high nozzle temperatures or complex temperature-dependent adjustments.

Advantages

Because PolyLite™ LW-PLA is pre-foamed, print settings remain close to standard PLA parameters and only minor retraction tuning is usually needed. It prints well at low temperatures (around 190°C–210°C), resulting in higher surface quality and fewer defects compared with active-foaming filaments that require very high temperatures. The material produces rigid, light parts suitable for applications where reduced weight and ease of printing are important.

How to use

Load PolyLite™ LW-PLA into your 1.75 mm extruder and start with standard PLA settings. Use a nozzle temperature in the 190°C–210°C range and keep the print fan on. Printing speed can be between 25 mm/s and 60 mm/s. For direct-drive extruders, try a retraction distance around 3 mm at ~40 mm/s; for Bowden/indirect systems, use about 6 mm retraction at ~60 mm/s. These settings preserve the filament’s pre-foamed structure and produce consistent, lightweight parts without active foaming adjustments.

Usage recommendations

If the filament has absorbed moisture, dry at 55°C for 6 hours before printing. Slightly increase retraction compared with standard PLA if you observe stringing. PolyLite™ LW-PLA is suitable for RC plane parts where low weight and rigidity are required; avoid using excessive nozzle temperatures that are unnecessary for this passive-foamed material.
