NAS QNAP ES1640dc Rack 3U Intel Xeon E5-2420V2 DDR3 0 TB
NAS QNAP ES1640dc Rack 3U Intel Xeon E5-2420V2 DDR3 0 TB
The QNAP ES1640dc Rack 3U Intel Xeon E5-2420V2 DDR3 0 TB is a rack-mount NAS engineered for business environments that require high availability, scalable storage and advanced data-management features. Powered by Intel® Xeon® E5 processors and running the QES operating system based on FreeBSD and ZFS, this 3U chassis supports up to 16 drives (HDD and SSD), dual active controllers, and enterprise features such as block-level deduplication, near‑limitless snapshots and thin provisioning. With no drives preinstalled, the unit is suitable for custom storage configurations and can be expanded via external JBOD enclosures to support large-capacity deployments.
The ES1640dc offers dual active-active controllers for continuous availability and fast failover, NVRAM cache and dual mini‑SAS channels for resilient connectivity. QES delivers enterprise-grade data services including snapshots, SnapSync, inline deduplication and compression to optimize capacity for virtualization and VDI workloads. The system supports both NAS and iSCSI/IP‑SAN protocols for VMware, Microsoft Hyper‑V and KVM environments and is compatible with OpenStack Cinder and HPE Helion, enabling integration into hybrid cloud and virtualization infrastructures.
Install required DDR3 memory modules and populate the drive bays with compatible HDDs or SSDs according to your desired capacity and performance profile. Mount the 3U chassis into a standard rack, connect network interfaces to your LAN or SAN fabric and attach external JBOD enclosures via the mini‑SAS ports if additional capacity is needed. Use the QES management interface to configure storage pools, RAID/ZFS settings, network services and virtualization targets (iSCSI/LUNs), and enable features such as deduplication, compression and snapshot schedules. Configure dual‑controller high‑availability settings to ensure automatic failover and verify NVRAM cache and mini‑SAS paths for redundancy.
Deploy mirrored or redundant controllers and implement RAID/ZFS configurations tailored to your performance and data‑protection needs. For VDI or dense virtualization workloads enable deduplication and compression to maximize usable capacity, and schedule frequent snapshots with SnapSync for efficient replication. Use enterprise‑grade HDDs or SSDs tested for NAS use and maintain JBOD connections with dual paths for continuous operation. Plan rack space, power and cooling to accommodate the 3U chassis and expansion enclosures and follow vendor guidance for firmware updates and warranty procedures.
