Fibre optic connector QOLTEC 54172 — QOLTEC 54172
Fibre optic connector QOLTEC 54172 is a passive optical connector intended for joining or terminating singlemode optical fibers. It provides mechanical alignment and low-loss signal transmission where an FC/UPC interface is required. The connector is suitable for use in telecommunication and data networks, FTTH installations, patch panels and repair work that require a standard, repeatable fiber mating interface.
The FC/UPC fiber optic connector offers precise ferrule alignment for consistent optical coupling and reduced back-reflection compared to non-polished terminations. Its singlemode design supports long-distance and high-bandwidth links, while the standardized FC housing ensures compatibility with common equipment. The connector is passive and requires no power, simplifying installation and maintenance.
Prepare the fiber by stripping, cleaning and cleaving to the recommended length and quality for singlemode termination. Insert the prepared fiber into the connector according to the manufacturer's alignment procedure until the ferrule seats inside the FC housing. Secure the cable with the connector's clamping or bonding mechanism as required. After assembly, inspect the endface with a microscope and test insertion loss and return loss using appropriate optical test equipment.
Handle the ferrule and endface with care to avoid contamination; always use isopropyl alcohol and lint-free wipes for cleaning and verify performance with an OTDR or power meter after installation. Use dust caps when connectors are not mated to protect optical surfaces.
