The ICY DOCK ToughArmor EX MB491SKL-B is a 3.5" carrier panel and mobile rack designed for industrial small form factor systems that need secure, durable storage for 2.5" SATA or SAS drives and SSDs. Constructed entirely from heavy-duty metal, the MB491SKL-B provides dust protection, EMI grounding and passive cooling while supporting 6Gbps transfer rates (backwards compatible to 3Gbps). The removable tray design supports 7–15mm height 2.5" drives, enables hot-swap maintenance and includes drive ID plugs and status LEDs for easy identification and monitoring.

A dual-layer security system combines a metal key lock to prevent unauthorized access with a thumb screw lock that reduces tray vibration and prevents accidental ejection. How to use

Install the MB491SKL-B into a 3.5" drive bay in your system and insert a compatible 2.5" SATA or SAS drive into the removable EX-Secure Mini Tray. Secure the tray with the thumb screw and engage the metal key lock if access control is required. Connect the system to a SATA or SAS host (SAS host required for SAS drives). The tray supports hot-swap replacement—power down is not required for drive changes if the host supports hot-swap. Use the drive ID plugs and the front status LED to identify and monitor each drive.

Usage recommendations

For optimal reliability, use the MB491SKL-B in systems with proper cooling and vibration control. Ensure the host interface matches the drive type (SAS host for SAS drives) and keep spare keys stored securely.
