Drive bay panel Icy Dock MB699VP-B
The ICYDOCK ToughArmor MB699VP-B is a full-metal 5.25" drive bay panel designed to hold up to four NVMe U.2 (SFF-8639) SSDs in 15mm form factor. The unit provides hot-swappable metal EZ-slide trays, individual miniSAS HD (SFF-8643) connectors per bay to preserve each NVMe drive's maximum bandwidth, front status LEDs, and a dual-fan cooling system. Its rugged construction and locking SATA power support make it suitable for rack or workstation environments that require compact, high-speed internal storage.
The enclosure offers a compact multi-drive solution that maintains each NVMe U.2 drive's native transfer performance by using separate miniSAS HD connections for every bay. All trays and the chassis are full metal for improved durability and drive protection, while hot-swap EZ-slide trays simplify drive replacement without tools. Integrated drive-status LEDs and individually removable drive ID labels help with identification and maintenance. Active Power Technology powers LEDs and fans only when drives are present, and the unit includes two 40 mm ball-bearing fans with three speed settings (high, low, off) for configurable cooling. The 15‑pin SATA power connectors feature locking latches to prevent accidental disconnection.
Install the MB699VP-B into a standard 5.25" device bay and connect each miniSAS HD cable from the host to the corresponding rear port to ensure each NVMe U.2 drive receives full bandwidth. Insert U.2 SSDs into the metal EZ-slide trays and slide them into the front bays until they lock. Connect the SATA power cable(s) with locking latches to the enclosure and to the system power supply. Power on the system; the drive-status LEDs will indicate drive power and activity. Adjust the fan speed using the fan control to match drive workload and thermal needs.
Use individual miniSAS HD connections per bay to maximize NVMe performance, set fans to low for mixed workloads and high for sustained heavy IO, and use the removable drive ID labels to track drive roles in RAID or backup configurations. Ensure proper airflow in the system chassis for optimal cooling.
