The Icy Dock MB998SP-B is a 5.25” drive bay enclosure that fits up to eight 2.5” SATA drives or SSDs (7mm height) in a single optical bay. It uses removable EZ Slide Nano trays for hot-swap drive access and includes dual 40mm fans, full-metal housing, and locking SATA/data connectors for reliable, high-density storage in workstations, compact servers, or industrial systems.

Compactly fitting eight 2.5” drives into one 5.25” bay saves chassis space while enabling flexible RAID configurations or JBOD setups. Hot-swappable EZ Slide Nano trays with an Eagle-hook lock offer quick drive interchangeability and physical security. Dual 40mm fans and ventilated front and side openings maintain airflow, and Active Power Technology only powers LEDs and fans when a drive is present to reduce wear and noise.

How to use

Install the MB998SP-B into an available 5.25” bay in your chassis or rack and secure it per chassis instructions. Insert 2.5” SATA drives or SSDs (up to 7mm height) into the EZ Slide Nano trays, slide each tray into the enclosure until the Eagle-hook lock engages, and connect the SATA data and SATA power cables with locking latches to the back of the unit. When powered, drives will be recognized by the host system and LEDs will indicate individual drive status. Fans will operate automatically when a drive is present, per Active Power Technology.

Usage recommendations

For best results, use the MB998SP-B with SATA 6Gbps drives in properly ventilated chassis and configure RAID using host controller or software suited to your performance and redundancy needs. Periodically check drive label IDs and ensure the two required 15-pin power connectors remain securely latched.
