Dynamic Microphone RODE PodMic — broadcast-quality cardioid microphone for podcasting and streaming
The RODE PodMic is a dynamic, broadcast-quality cardioid microphone engineered for podcasting, streaming and voice recording. Its design focuses on close-miking performance with strong off-axis rejection to capture clear, intelligible vocals while minimizing room noise and bleed. Built with robust metal construction and a tailored internal pop filter, the PodMic integrates smoothly with common broadcast setups and desk-mounted microphone arms for reliable studio and mobile use.
The cardioid polar pattern provides focused pickup of the voice while reducing ambient sounds from the sides and rear. As a dynamic microphone, the PodMic is less sensitive to room reflections and background noise compared with condenser microphones, which helps when recording in non-treated spaces. The internal pop filter and wind protection reduce plosives and breath noise, eliminating the immediate need for an external windscreen in many setups. Metal construction and a balanced weight make the microphone durable and compatible with standard broadcast mounts and shock mounts.
Position the PodMic close to the speaker’s mouth—typically 5–15 cm—angled slightly off-axis to minimize plosives while retaining clarity. Connect the microphone to a microphone preamp, audio interface, or mixer using a balanced cable appropriate for your setup. Adjust preamp gain so the voice peaks well below clipping while maintaining good signal-to-noise ratio. Use the microphone with a desk-mounted boom or shock mount to reduce handling noise; if necessary, add an external pop filter for very sibilant voices or extreme close-miking distances.
For best speech clarity, set the input gain conservatively and monitor levels while recording. Combine the PodMic with a quality audio interface or broadcast-style mixer and simple EQ to reduce low-frequency rumble and gently shape presence around the midrange. In untreated rooms, rely on close-miking technique and the microphone’s cardioid pattern to limit room reflections.
