Windshield RODE WS9-G green — windshield for microphones, model 400820082
RODE WS9-G is a green windshield designed to fit compatible microphones and reduce wind and breath noise during outdoor and indoor recording. The windshield improves audio clarity when capturing voice or instruments by minimising turbulence and air blasts that cause low-frequency rumble and plosives. Its colour and form make it suitable for visible applications such as interviews, broadcasting and field recording where wind protection is required.
The WS9-G windshield provides effective reduction of wind noise and breath pops without significantly affecting the microphone's tonal balance. Constructed from a dense foam material, it offers consistent performance in moderate wind conditions while remaining lightweight and easy to install. The green finish allows for visual differentiation or branding in multi-microphone setups and helps reduce visual distraction compared with bare metal or black windscreens.
Slide the WS9-G windshield over the microphone head until it fits snugly; ensure the foam fully encloses the capsule area for optimal wind attenuation. For handheld use, confirm the windshield does not obstruct any switches or connection points. For mounted or shock-mounted microphones, fit the foam carefully over the capsule and check that no gaps remain where wind could enter. Clean the foam gently with a damp cloth and allow it to dry completely before reusing.
For best results in strong wind, combine the foam windshield with a larger external windjammer or blimp system. Avoid exposing the foam to solvents or prolonged moisture; store in a dry place when not in use. Periodically inspect the foam for tears or compression and replace the windshield if acoustic performance degrades.
