The NT1 5th Generation is a studio condenser microphone that combines the classic sonic character of the original NT1 with modern digital technology. It offers both XLR and USB connectivity via RØDE’s Dual Connect output, an integrated professional-grade audio interface, advanced on-board DSP, and a 32-bit float digital output that prevents clipping. The microphone maintains the NT1’s warm, silky tone, very low self-noise, and high SPL handling, and is suitable for vocals, speech, guitar, piano, drums and other instruments. The package includes a shock mount, pop filter, XLR cable and USB-C cable.

How to use

Connect the NT1 5th Generation via XLR to an audio interface or mixer to use it as a traditional analogue studio condenser, or plug it directly into a computer with the supplied USB-C cable for plug-and-play digital recording. Select the XLR path for classic condenser character or the USB/32-bit float path when you need the unclippable digital format and onboard DSP. Use the RØDE Central and RØDE Connect apps to configure DSP settings, apply APHEX® processors and update firmware. On Windows, install the custom ASIO driver to enable 32-bit float recording, input gain control and multi-microphone USB operation.

Recommendations

For vocal and spoken-word recordings, position the microphone 10–30 cm from the source and use the included pop filter to reduce plosives. When recording sources with high dynamic range (drums, loud acoustic guitar), consider using the 32-bit float digital output to avoid clipping; adjust levels and DSP processing afterward. Use the shock mount to minimise handling noise and connect via XLR when you prefer the microphone’s traditional analogue tone.
