Microphone RØDE NTG8

The RØDE NTG8 is a professional long shotgun microphone engineered for location sound, broadcast and film applications. Based on the award-winning NTG3, the NTG8 provides increased directionality and a wide frequency response from 40 to 20,000 Hz. With a sensitivity of -20 dB and low total harmonic distortion (1%), it delivers clear, natural audio capture for distance miking, sports and outdoor broadcasting, live performance and other professional uses. The microphone uses wired connectivity via an XLR-3 interface, operates from 48 V phantom power and draws only 2.5 mA. The matte black, weatherproof aluminium body is supplied with a dedicated shock mount, windshield and protective cylinder for transport and storage.

How to use

Mount the NTG8 in the supplied SM8 shock mount and connect it to your recorder, mixer or camera using a balanced XLR cable. Ensure the host device provides 48 V phantom power before use. Point the microphone toward the sound source and keep off-axis noise sources outside the main lobe to benefit from the shotgun’s directional pickup. Use the supplied WSNTG8 windshield outdoors or in windy conditions to reduce wind noise, and store the microphone in the protective aluminium cylinder when transporting.

Usage recommendations

For optimal results, pair the NTG8 with a high-quality preamp or field recorder with clean gain and phantom power. Use boom poles or professional mounting hardware to minimize handling noise and maintain consistent aim. In humid or wet conditions, rely on the RF-bias design but still protect connections and cables; periodic inspection and proper storage in the supplied cylinder will extend service life.
