The RØDE VideoMic NTG is a broadcast-grade shotgun microphone designed for on-camera use and flexible recording workflows. It uses the same acoustic design as the NTG5 to deliver a natural, uncoloured sound with a flat frequency response, highly directional supercardioid polar pattern, and low self-noise. Compact and lightweight, the VideoMic NTG works with DSLRs, compact cameras, smartphones and can also function as a USB microphone for computers and tablets.

How to use

Mount the VideoMic NTG on your camera’s hot shoe or on a suitable boom or pistol grip depending on your setup. Connect via the 3.5 mm auto-sensing output for camera or mobile device use, or plug the microphone into a computer or tablet using the USB connection for direct digital recording. Adjust the infinitely variable gain to set the desired level and enable digital functions (high-pass filter, pad, high-frequency boost, safety channel) as required. Monitor levels using headphones connected to the 3.5 mm jack when using USB output and watch the dB peak warning light to avoid clipping.

Usage recommendations

For Lightning-equipped iOS devices, use the official SC15 or SC19 cable and ensure the VideoMic NTG firmware is updated to the latest version for full compatibility. Position the microphone close to the subject and aim the supercardioid lobe toward the sound source to maximise isolation and clarity.
