Microphone Windshield Rycote RYC065501 — Black, self-noise 12 dB
Microphone Windshield Rycote RYC065501 — Black, self-noise 12 dB
Rycote RYC065501 is a compact microphone windshield designed to protect lavalier and compatible shotgun microphone capsules from wind noise and handling artefacts. Finished in black and engineered for field recording, broadcast and location sound, this windshield delivers measurable self-noise of 12 dB and provides durable protection for subminiature microphones used outdoors or on clothing.
The Rycote RYC065501 reduces wind-driven turbulence and minimizes clothes rustle for clearer vocal capture. Its robust construction is intended for repeated use in outdoor interview and production environments, while the black finish offers a discreet visual profile on clothing and boom setups. The windshield’s measured self-noise of 12 dB gives a reference for expected background contribution when assessing signal-to-noise for sensitive lavalier placements.
Fit the Rycote RYC065501 over the lavalier microphone capsule so that the windshield fully covers the microphone element and any clip or housing. Position the microphone on the outside of clothing as normally required for the production, ensuring the windshield remains visible and unobstructed by fabric. For shotgun or other compatible capsules, slide or attach the windshield according to the microphone’s form factor so that the foam and furry exterior surround the capsule. Check placement on-location and perform a brief sound check to confirm reduced wind and rustle artefacts.
Use the windshield in combination with careful mic placement and clothing management to achieve the best reduction of wind noise and rustle. For extreme wind conditions consider pairing the windshield with additional wind protection or positioning the microphone in a more sheltered location. Clean and store the windshield dry to maintain its protective properties and appearance.
