Microphone windshield Rycote 089103 for shotgun and small-diaphragm mics, Ø 15.7 cm, length 297 mm
Rycote 089103 Cyclone Small (XLR) windshield is engineered for shotgun and small-diaphragm condenser microphones used in field recording, broadcast and location sound. The system combines a lightweight open-shell basket with grey 3D‑Tex fabric and Rycote Lyre® suspension elements to provide wind and plosive protection while preserving the microphone’s natural frequency response. With an overall length of 297 mm and a diameter of 15.7 cm, this windshield fits many common models including Audio‑Technica AT4053, DPA 4017/4018, Neumann KM 100 and Schoeps CMC/MiniCMIT as well as other similarly sized microphones with XLR connectivity.
The open shell design minimises room‑tone coloration and maintains acoustic transparency so recorded sound remains clear and natural. The asymmetric basket covered with 3D‑Tex material significantly reduces surface turbulence and wind noise without relying on fur, while the Floating‑Basket Suspension and Lyre® microphone suspension webs offer effective shock and vibration isolation. The Z‑Locking basket with magnetic elements enables rapid attachment and removal for quick microphone access in dynamic production environments.
Mount the microphone in the supplied Lyre® suspension webs and insert into the Cyclone basket, ensuring the capsule is aligned with the basket’s acoustic axis. Secure the basket to the microphone pole or shock mount using the Z‑Locking bracket; use the included Offset Link if axis articulation is required for precise aiming. For routine location work no additional fur is necessary; in extreme wind you may fit an optional windjammer over the 3D‑Tex cover. Inspect suspension elements and fabric before each session and confirm the microphone connector and cable routing remain unobstructed.
Use the windshield on a boom or pole with proper cable strain relief and position the capsule axis towards the source for best results. For very high wind conditions add an appropriate windjammer and check mounting tightness periodically during long takes.
