Microphone Sennheiser e 614
The Sennheiser e 614 is a compact supercardioid condenser microphone engineered for demanding instrument recordings and live performances. It offers a nearly flat frequency response from 40 Hz to 20 kHz, high SPL handling and fast transient response in a small, robust body, making it particularly suitable for drum overheads and percussion while also fitting into tight stage and studio setups.
The microphone delivers a wide, nearly flat frequency range and a focused supercardioid pickup pattern that captures stick and mallet articulation with clarity while reducing bleed from other stage sources. Its medium sensitivity combined with high SPL capability preserves dynamics in loud environments. The compact dimensions and light weight support flexible placement in constrained spaces.
Mount the microphone using an appropriate clip or stand adapter and connect it via XLR to a mixer or audio interface supplying the required condenser power. Position the e 614 above the drum set for overhead capture or close to individual percussion instruments to emphasize transient detail and stick attack. Adjust angle and distance to balance direct sound and bleed from nearby sources; the supercardioid pattern helps reject off-axis sound but careful placement will improve isolation.
For drum overheads, place a matched pair symmetrically above the kit at a comfortable height to capture stereo image and cymbal shimmer. When used on percussion, start with the mic 10–30 cm from the sound source and refine position while monitoring for desired attack and ambient bleed.
