sera 32257 Blue is decorative aquarium gravel in blue colour suitable for both freshwater and saltwater aquaria. The gravel is CO2-proof and chemically neutral, which means it does not influence water parameters or tint the water. With a rounded grain shape and a grain size of 2–3 mm, the substrate supports plant rooting and is gentle on bottom-dwelling fish such as catfish.
The gravel is evaluated according to DIN 38415-6 / EN ISO 15088 by an independent institute and proven to be pollutant free, making it suitable for sensitive species and breeding. Its neutral composition ensures stable water chemistry, while the rounded grains reduce the risk of injury to bottom-oriented fish. The 2–3 mm grain size provides a balance between anchoring plant roots and allowing water circulation through the substrate.
Rinse the gravel briefly before use to remove any loose dust, then spread evenly across the aquarium bottom to the desired depth, typically 2–4 cm for planted tanks and slightly deeper where necessary for root establishment. Arrange decorations and plants as required and fill the tank slowly to avoid disturbing the substrate. Monitor water parameters after initial setup as part of standard aquarium start-up procedures.
For planted aquaria, use a layer of nutrient substrate or root tabs beneath the gravel where intensive root feeding is needed. For tanks with burrowing or bottom-dwelling species, ensure the gravel layer is deep enough to allow natural behaviour while maintaining water circulation. Regular gentle vacuuming during maintenance will help keep gravel clean without removing beneficial bacteria.
