Wide-Angle Lens SIGMA 15mm F1.4 DC Contemporary for Canon RF

The SIGMA 15mm F1.4 DC Contemporary for Canon RF is a wide-angle lens designed for APS-C mirrorless cameras using the RF mount. It offers an ultra-wide 15mm focal length combined with a bright F1.4 maximum aperture, enabling low-light shooting, expansive field of view and pronounced subject separation when needed. The lens is positioned for advanced hobbyists and professionals working in landscape, architecture, astrophotography and environmental portraiture who require strong optical performance in a compact Contemporary-series package.

Advantages

The large F1.4 aperture provides improved light-gathering capability and more control over depth of field compared with typical wide-angle lenses, making it suitable for night skies and low-light interiors. Optical design balances sharpness and control of aberrations across the frame, while the wide-angle perspective captures broad scenes and architectural lines. The Contemporary designation indicates a compact form factor and practical handling for field use on Canon RF mirrorless bodies.

Suitable for

• Landscape and cityscape photography requiring a very wide field of view
• Astrophotography and night-sky scenes where a large aperture helps capture stars
• Architecture and interior photography where perspective and edge-to-edge performance matter
• Environmental portraits that include context and surroundings

When it may not be suitable

This lens is designed for APS-C format RF-mount cameras and therefore produces an equivalent wider angle on full-frame bodies with adapters; it is not intended as a full-frame native wide-angle. The ultra-wide perspective and F1.4 aperture can make precise subject isolation more challenging for tight headshots compared with longer focal lengths. If your work consistently requires telephoto reach or full-frame coverage, consider lenses tailored to those needs.

Key specifications

• Focal length: 15mm (ultra-wide)
• Maximum aperture: f/1.4
• Lens mount: Canon RF (designed for APS-C mirrorless bodies)
• Format coverage: APS-C
• Typical uses: landscape, architecture, astrophotography, environmental portrait

How to use

Attach the SIGMA 15mm F1.4 DC Contemporary to a Canon RF-mount APS-C camera and set the camera to the appropriate exposure settings for the scene. Use the wide field of view to compose expansive scenes and make use of the f/1.4 aperture when shooting in low light or when a shallower depth of field is desired for creative effect. For night-sky work, pair the lens with a stable tripod, use a remote release or self-timer and select high ISO and long exposure as required. For architectural work, keep the camera level or use perspective control in post-processing to manage converging lines.

What to consider before purchase

• Compatibility with your camera body: designed for APS-C Canon RF-mount mirrorless cameras
• Intended use: ultra-wide perspective suited to landscapes, astrophotography and architecture
• Size and weight relative to your carrying and handling preferences
• Whether you need native full-frame coverage or telephoto reach instead

Usage recommendations

For best results in low-light and astrophotography, use a sturdy tripod, open the aperture to f/1.4 or slightly stopped down for improved edge sharpness, and experiment with exposure time and ISO to balance star trailing and noise. When shooting interiors or architecture, check horizon and vertical alignment in-camera and correct minor perspective distortion in post-processing if necessary.
