Eyepiece Skywatcher 12.5mm 1.25 inch Illuminated – Skywatcher SW-5900
The Skywatcher 12.5mm 1.25 inch Illuminated Eyepiece (model SW-5900) is a dedicated telescope eyepiece that provides a 12.5 mm focal length in a standard 1.25" barrel. Designed for use with most 1.25" focusers, this eyepiece features an illuminated reticle to simplify centering, alignment and targeting in low-light conditions. It is suitable for planetary and lunar observation as well as general visual astronomy, and can be used for guiding and improving target acquisition when pairing with appropriate mounts and finders.
The illuminated reticle offers consistent crosshair visibility without external light sources, aiding precise centering of objects and calibration of mounts. The 12.5 mm focal length delivers a balanced combination of magnification and field of view for detailed views of the Moon and planets while remaining useful for star fields and double stars. Its standard 1.25" barrel ensures broad compatibility with a wide range of telescopes and accessories, and the mechanical construction is compact and easy to insert or remove from the focuser.
Insert the 1.25" eyepiece into the focuser and secure it using the focuser's locking mechanism. Power the illumination system according to the eyepiece's control (battery or external power as applicable) and adjust brightness to a comfortable level that preserves night vision while keeping the reticle visible. Use the illuminated reticle to center targets by aligning the object with the crosshair; fine adjustments of the telescope mount or focuser will improve centering accuracy. When finished, switch off the illumination and carefully remove the eyepiece for storage.
For best results, set illumination brightness low enough to maintain dark-adapted vision, especially during deep-sky viewing. Use the eyepiece for precise alignment procedures and guiding tasks; pair it with compatible 1.25" adapters or Barlow lenses only if the optical path and back focus are appropriate for your telescope.
