Skywatcher Finder Scope SW-7104 9x50 with Mount, Black
Skywatcher Finder Scope SW-7104 9x50 with Mount, Black is an optical aiming accessory designed to help locate and center celestial objects before observing them with a main telescope. With a 9x magnification and a 50 mm objective lens, this finder scope provides a wider, brighter field of view than standard small finders, making target acquisition easier for visual observing and quick alignment. The unit is supplied with a dedicated mounting bracket so it can be attached to compatible optical tubes and used as a reliable guide during setup and star-hopping sessions.
The 9x50 optical design delivers a balance of magnification and light gathering that improves visibility of faint stars and extended objects compared with lower-power finders. The included mount provides secure attachment and straightforward adjustment, reducing setup time and improving repeatability when reattaching the finder. Its black finish and compact form factor make it unobtrusive on the telescope while remaining durable for regular observational use.
Mount the finder scope on the telescope using the supplied bracket and secure it with the clamping screws. Roughly align the finder by pointing the telescope at a distant terrestrial object or a bright star and centering it in the main eyepiece. Then adjust the finder’s alignment screws so the same object is centered in the finder’s field of view; final checks can be performed at night with Polaris or another conveniently located bright star. Once aligned, use the finder to locate and center targets before switching to higher-power eyepieces on the main telescope.
For best results, perform initial alignment in daylight on a distant object, then refine alignment on a bright star at night. Regularly check and re-tighten the mount screws after transport to maintain alignment accuracy. When using the finder for faint deep-sky objects, allow a few minutes for your eyes to adapt to the dark to improve target detection.
