Brush SMARTMAX Series 7 Kolinsky Sable Miniature No. 7-1 — artist round brush, kolinsky sable hair, Series 7

SMARTMAX Series 7 Kolinsky Sable Miniature No. 7-1 is an artist round brush designed for precise, small-scale painting tasks. Made with Kolinsky sable hair, this Series 7 miniature brush delivers a fine, resilient point and consistent paint pickup, making it suitable for watercolor, gouache and delicate acrylic detailing. The compact head and balanced ferrule support controlled strokes when working on miniatures, illustrations, fine line work and other detailed applications.

Advantages

The Kolinsky sable filament retains a sharp point and spring for sustained control during prolonged use. The Series 7 miniature size provides superior paint holding capacity relative to its small profile, enabling continuous, uninterrupted strokes. Construction and materials focus on precision: a smooth ferrule seating and a well-shaped round tip assist in producing consistent lines, tiny highlights and delicate blending without excessive brush marks.

Suitable for

• Watercolor details and fine washes
• Gouache detailing and small corrections
• Acrylic miniature painting and model detailing
• Illustration work requiring fine lines and tiny highlights
• Restoration touch-ups and conservation where precision is needed

When it may not be suitable

Because the Series 7 Kolinsky miniature No. 7-1 has a very small head and fine point, it is not intended for broad coverage or heavy-bodied paints. Users requiring rapid coverage, thick texture work, or very large brush strokes should choose a larger round, flat or filbert brush with a sturdier hair load. The brush’s performance also depends on appropriate thinning of acrylics and gouache to avoid overloading or splaying.

Key specifications

• Brush type: round (miniature)
• Hair: Kolinsky sable
• Size: Series 7 miniature, No. 7-1 (very small head for precision)
• Suitable media: watercolor, gouache, delicate acrylics
• Tip characteristic: fine point with good spring and paint retention

How to use

Wet the brush tip and load with a small amount of paint; Kolinsky sable holds pigment well so shorter loading cycles deliver controlled strokes. Use light, steady pressure to maintain the point when painting fine lines or dots, and adjust paint consistency for smooth flow—thin acrylics and gouache slightly for best results. After use, rinse thoroughly with appropriate cleaner (water for water-based media), reshape the tip with the fingers, and store horizontally or with bristles up to preserve the point.

What to consider before purchase

• Intended use: precision, small-scale work rather than broad coverage
• Media compatibility: best with watercolor, gouache, and thinned acrylics
• Caretaking: requires gentle cleaning and proper storage to maintain the point
• Size choice: confirm that a very small Series 7 miniature tip meets your detail requirements

Usage recommendations

For consistent fine work, load the brush with minimal paint and use short, controlled strokes. Rinse and re-form the tip between color changes to preserve the shape and performance of the Kolinsky sable bristles.
