PLA Silk 1.75 mm 1 kg filament Spectrum 81405 — Royal Amethyst multicolour
Spectrum Filaments 81405 Silk PLA in Royal Amethyst is a 1 kg spool of multicolour polylactic acid filament designed for FDM 3D printing. The material offers a silk-like glossy finish and is supplied in 1.75 mm diameter suitable for most desktop printers. It comes packaged in a box and intended for general-purpose printing where a decorative, shiny surface is desired.
Silk PLA combines the ease of printing associated with standard PLA and a satin-gloss appearance that reduces the need for post-processing to achieve a polished look. The multicolour (Royal Amethyst) formulation produces subtle colour variation along prints, which can enhance visual interest without requiring painting. The 1.75 mm diameter and 1 kg spool weight match common desktop 3D printer requirements.
Silk PLA is not formulated for high-temperature or load-bearing applications; it shares PLA’s limited heat resistance and mechanical strength compared with engineering plastics. For functional parts requiring high impact resistance, flexibility, or prolonged exposure to heat, choose a more appropriate technical filament.
Load the 1.75 mm filament into a compatible FDM/FFF 3D printer following the printer manufacturer’s loading procedure. Recommended printing temperatures for silk PLA typically range between 190–220 °C; adjust based on your printer and observed extrusion behaviour. Use a heated bed when needed (commonly 40–60 °C) or apply adhesion aids to reduce warping. Print speeds, retraction, and cooling settings should be tuned to match the silk formulation to minimise stringing and to preserve surface sheen.
For best surface quality, print at moderate speeds with active part cooling and fine-tune retraction to reduce stringing; store the spool dry to prevent moisture-related extrusion issues.
