Stabilo CarbOthello Multicolour 12 pc(s) pastel pencils

The Stabilo CarbOthello Multicolour 12 pc(s) pastel pencils set offers high-quality chalk-pastel pencils designed for artists, students, and creative professionals. Supplied in a sturdy metal tin containing 12 assorted colours, these pencils combine the fine precision of a pencil with the rich, expressive qualities of pastel chalk. They are formulated to provide exceptional lightfastness and vibrant pigmentation, making them a reliable choice for detailed fine art and expressive sketching.

Advantages

These pastel pencils feature high pigmentation that ensures intense and vibrant colour application across various paper types. The lead is fully water-soluble, allowing artists to create smooth watercolour effects when blended with a wet brush. Their soft texture facilitates effortless blending and smudging with fingertips or a blending stump, while the wooden casing helps keep hands clean during intensive creative work sessions.

Suitable for

• Detailed sketching and fine art drawing
• Mixed media projects combining pastel and watercolour
• Portraits and landscape illustrations
• Highlighting and adding texture to existing artwork

When it may not be suitable

These pastel pencils may not be ideal for very young children or educational settings requiring dust-free, non-smudge writing instruments, as chalk pastels inherently produce dust and require careful handling. They are also not designed for standard everyday writing or technical drafting on glossy or non-porous surfaces.

Key specifications

• Product type: Pastel pencils
• Quantity: 12 pieces in assorted colours
• Packaging: Metal tin case
• Properties: Chalk-pastel, water-soluble, high pigmentation
• Application surface: Various types of art paper

How to use

Start by sketching your outlines lightly on a suitable textured art paper, such as pastel paper or watercolour paper. Apply the pigment directly using the pencil tip for fine lines, or use the side of the lead for broader shading. Blend the colours smoothly using your fingers, a paper stump, or a cloth to create soft gradients. To achieve watercolour effects, apply water over the dry pigment using a soft paintbrush.

What to consider before purchase

• Ensure you have appropriate textured art paper to allow the pastel pigment to adhere properly.
• Consider whether water-soluble chalk pastels match your preferred drawing techniques and finished project styles.
• Note that pastel drawings generally require a fixative spray to prevent smudging once completed.

Usage recommendations: Store the metal tin in a dry place to protect the pastel cores from moisture, and use a specialized sharpener or a craft knife to sharpen the pencils carefully and preserve the soft leads.
