The StarTech.com Expansion Card 2-Port USB PCIe (PEXUSB312A3) installs into an available PCIe x4 slot and adds two USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) Type-A ports to a desktop computer. The black, low-profile/full-profile compatible card uses an ASMedia ASM3142 controller and supports PCIe 3.0 x2 lanes, enabling high-speed connections for external drives, SSDs and other USB devices.

Advantages

This PCIe USB 3.2 Gen 2 controller provides two SuperSpeed USB-A ports with up to 10 Gbps per port and backward compatibility with USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbps) and USB 2.0. Each port supplies up to 4.5W (5V/0.9A) for powering and syncing mobile devices. The ASM3142 controller supports UASP and Multiple INs to reduce bandwidth loss when multiple devices are connected. The card includes full-profile and low-profile brackets and is supported on Windows, Linux and macOS, with automatic driver installation on Windows 8 and later.

How to use

Power off the computer, open the case and install the card into an available PCIe x4 (or larger) slot. Secure the bracket and choose the appropriate full- or low-profile bracket for your case. Reassemble the computer and power it on; on Windows 8 or later the drivers install automatically. Connect USB devices to the Type-A ports to begin data transfer. For optimal performance use USB 3.2 Gen 2 compatible cables and devices and connect directly to the card rather than through unpowered hubs when possible.

To maximize throughput, use dedicated high-quality USB 3.2 Gen 2 cables and connect high-performance storage devices directly to the card. When connecting multiple high-bandwidth devices, verify hub support for Multiple INs to avoid bandwidth limitations.
