The StarTech.com PCIe Card PEXUSB321C adds a single USB-C port supporting USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20 Gbps) to a desktop computer by installing into an available PCI-Express x4 slot. Powered by the ASMedia ASM3242 controller and using four PCIe 3.0 lanes, the card enables high-speed connections for external storage, peripherals and device charging. It includes full- and low-profile brackets for installation in different system cases and is compatible with Windows, Linux and macOS.

Advantages

This PCIe USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 card delivers up to 20 Gbps transfer rates and is backward compatible with USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) and USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbps). It supports UASP for improved storage performance and Multiple INs to reduce bandwidth loss when multiple devices are connected through a compatible USB hub. The USB-C port provides up to 15 W (5 V/3 A) power for charging and syncing mobile devices. The included full- and low-profile brackets simplify installation in a variety of desktop systems.

How to use

Power off the computer and install the card into an available PCIe x4 (or x8/x16) slot, secure the chosen bracket (full or low profile) to the chassis, then power on the system. On Windows 8 or later the required drivers install automatically; on other operating systems install drivers if prompted. Connect USB-C devices to the new port for data transfer or device charging. If connecting multiple devices via a hub, use a hub that supports Multiple INs to maintain performance.

Usage recommendations

For best results with high-speed storage devices, connect directly to the card’s USB-C port rather than through a hub. Ensure the host system has an available PCIe x4 lane and that connected cables and enclosures support USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 to achieve maximum throughput.
