The StarTech.com PEXUSB3S42 4-Port PCI Express USB 3.0 Card adds four USB 3.0 (USB 3.2 Gen 1) ports to a PCIe x4-enabled desktop, using two dedicated 5 Gbps channels implemented by dual host controller chipsets. This architecture provides improved throughput compared to single-bus USB 3.0 cards, offers backward compatibility with USB 2.0/1.1 devices, and ships with both full-height and low-profile brackets for installation in different system form factors.

Advantages

The dual-chipset design dedicates up to 5 Gbps per channel (two ports per channel), reducing bandwidth contention when multiple devices are connected. The card supports UASP (USB Attached SCSI Protocol) to accelerate transfers when used with a UASP-capable enclosure and compatible OS, achieving significantly higher read/write performance and lower CPU utilization compared with traditional USB BOT. An optional SATA or LP4 power connector supplies up to 900 mA per USB 3.0 port for bus-powered devices and supports USB Battery Charging 1.2 (Apple Mode) for faster charging of compatible Apple devices.
