USB 3.0 Card StarTech.com PEXUSB3S7
The USB 3.0 Card StarTech.com PEXUSB3S7 expands a PCIe-compatible desktop by adding seven USB 3.0 ports — six external and one internal — while offering a dual-profile bracket for both standard and low-profile systems. The card supports SuperSpeed USB 3.0 data rates up to 5 Gbps, includes a SATA power connector for reliable operation of multiple devices, and is backward compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.x peripherals. The product uses a Renesas/NEC chipset and is built for long-lasting performance with a compact stacked-port layout.
This card increases system scalability by providing seven additional USB ports without the need for external hubs. The dual-profile, stacked-port design allows installation in full-height and low-profile desktop computers; a low-profile bracket is included. Native driver support in Windows 8.1 and later simplifies setup, and the card supports UASP for improved transfer performance when used with UASP-enabled enclosures. The internal port offers a secure option for connecting an internal USB device.
Power off and open the computer case, then insert the PCIe card into an available PCIe slot and secure it with the bracket screw. Connect the SATA power cable from the system power supply to the card’s SATA power connector. If installing in a low-profile system, replace the full-height bracket with the included low-profile bracket before securing. Close the case and power on the computer. On Windows 8.1 or later the card should install natively; for older systems install drivers provided by the operating system or manufacturer. Connect external USB devices to the stacked external ports and, if needed, attach an internal USB device to the internal port.
For best performance with external storage, use UASP-enabled enclosures and ensure the operating system supports UASP (Windows 8.1 or later, or Linux kernel 2.6.37+). Use the SATA power connection to provide stable power when multiple high-draw USB devices are connected. Avoid exceeding the maximum cable length of connected USB devices to maintain signal integrity.
