NAS server Synology RackStation RS1221RP+ Rack (2U) Ryzen V1500B 2.2 GHz 4 GB DDR4 0 TB DiskStation Manager
The Synology RackStation RS1221RP+ is a compact 2U rack NAS designed for small and medium businesses that need reliable, high-performance storage in shallow-depth enclosures. Powered by an AMD Ryzen Embedded V1500B 2.2 GHz quad-core processor and shipped with 4 GB DDR4 ECC memory (expandable), the unit supports eight SATA drives and runs DiskStation Manager. The RS1221RP+ version adds redundant power supplies for increased uptime.
The RS1221RP+ delivers strong sequential and random I/O performance suitable for data‑intensive tasks, with support for SSD caching, 10GbE networking options, and storage expansion to 12 bays via an RX418 unit. Built‑in features such as ECC memory and the Btrfs file system improve data integrity and snapshot-based protection. Synology’s software ecosystem (Hyper Backup, Snapshot Replication, Active Backup, Virtual Machine Manager and others) provides integrated backup, replication and virtualization support.
The RS1221RP+ is not a turnkey solution with preinstalled drives — storage must be provided separately. Environments that require extremely high raw capacity beyond 12 bays or native NVMe drive bays for full SSD-only deployments may prefer larger or different models.
Install SATA drives of your choice into the eight drive bays (no drives included). Mount the unit in a compatible 2U shallow rack or on a 2‑post rail kit, connect network and power (the RP model supports redundant power supplies), and complete initial setup through Synology DiskStation Manager. Configure storage pools and volumes, enable SSD cache if desired, and install Synology packages such as Hyper Backup, Snapshot Replication or Active Backup to implement backup, replication and virtualization workflows.
Deploy the RS1221RP+ in shallow rack environments where space is limited, pair it with SSD cache and 10GbE networking for I/O‑intensive applications, and use Synology’s Snapshot Replication and Hyper Backup to implement frequent point‑in‑time backups and efficient offsite or cloud destinations.
