Synology RX1217 is a 12-bay 2U rackmount disk expansion unit that adds up to twelve additional SATA drives to compatible Synology RackStation systems. It supports both 2.5" and 3.5" HDD/SSD drives and connects to the host RackStation with a high-bandwidth expansion cable, allowing the expansion bays to operate like internal drives while preserving existing data and RAID configurations.

Advantages

The RX1217 enables immediate volume expansion without reformatting existing hard drives, preserving service continuity during capacity upgrades. The RX1217RP variant includes redundant power supplies for automatic failover and improved uptime. SATA 6 Gb/s interfaces provide high data throughput, and the unit can be configured to follow the host RackStation for automatic power on/off.
