Synology RX418 is an expansion unit for Synology 1U RackStation that adds four 3.5"/2.5" SATA drive bays to increase storage capacity. It can be used to extend existing storage pools or as a dedicated local backup target for RackStation systems, providing straightforward capacity growth without changing the primary NAS.

Advantages

The RX418 uses a plug-and-play design: connect it to a compatible Synology RackStation and the drives appear as if they were internal disks, managed directly through Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) with no additional software required. DSM offers drive hibernation and power management to reduce energy consumption and help extend drive lifespan. The expansion unit supports hot-swappable SATA drives for convenient maintenance.
