The TerraMaster D8 Hybrid is an 8-bay hybrid RAID enclosure designed to combine high-capacity HDD storage with high-speed M.2 NVMe SSDs for a mixed hot-and-cold data workflow. It connects via USB Type-C and supports a wide range of host interfaces and operating systems, making it suitable as a direct-attached storage expansion for Windows, macOS, Linux and compatible NAS devices. The enclosure accepts multiple drive types and offers hardware RAID switching for commonly used RAID modes.

Use the hardware RAID mode switch to set the desired mode for the primary HDD bays, and format the drives in a suitable file system (for example exFAT for cross-platform use or NTFS/APFS/EXT4 for single-platform setups). For Windows backups, install TerraMaster TPC Backupper to schedule incremental or differential backups; macOS users can use Time Machine. When used with TerraMaster NAS devices, create new volumes and storage pools via TOS to take advantage of NAS features such as snapshots.

Usage recommendations

For best balance of capacity and performance, populate the SATA bays with high-capacity HDDs for cold storage and install NVMe SSDs in the M.2 slots for hot data and real-time editing. Enable disk sleep in your host system to reduce power consumption and prolong drive life, and verify the chosen file system is compatible with all devices that will access the drives.
