Acrylic Paint VALLEJO True Metallic Metal Shade Sapphire Blue 77.151 (18 ml)

VALLEJO True Metallic Metal Shade 77.151 Sapphire Blue (18 ml) is an acrylic metallic paint formulated for scale models, miniatures and hobby projects. This water-based paint delivers a deep sapphire-blue metallic finish and is designed to produce shaded metallic effects that enhance depth and realism on painted surfaces. It is compatible with other acrylics from the same family and can be applied with brush or airbrush.

Advantages

The formulation provides a consistent metallic sheen with integrated shading pigments that create darker tones in recesses and lighter reflections on raised areas. Being water-based, the paint has low odor, cleans up with water and thins with standard acrylic thinners or water. Its flow characteristics suit both detailed brushwork and airbrush application, allowing controlled layering to build up metallic depth without using multiple separate pigments.

Suitable for

• Scale models and vehicle kits requiring metallic finishes
• Tabletop miniatures and wargaming figures needing shaded metal effects
• Hobby dioramas, props and small craft items where a sapphire-blue metal look is desired
• Detail painting and highlighting when using brush or airbrush techniques

When it may not be suitable

This paint is optimized for small-scale hobby work and may not be ideal for large industrial surfaces or applications requiring automotive-grade durability. As with many metallics, achieving an even finish on very rough or highly absorbent surfaces can require surface preparation such as priming and smoothing.

Key specifications

• Volume: 18 ml
• Type: Acrylic, water-based metallic paint
• Finish: Sapphire-blue metallic with shading effect
• Application methods: Brush and airbrush compatible
• Compatibility: Mixable with other acrylic paints in the same family

How to use

Shake the bottle well before use to distribute metallic pigments evenly. For brushwork, use thin, controlled layers, allowing each layer to dry before applying the next to build depth and shading. For airbrushing, thin as required with a compatible acrylic thinner or water to achieve the desired viscosity and spray pattern; test on a spare surface first. Prime the model with a suitable acrylic primer to ensure adhesion and a uniform base tone. Clean brushes and airbrush equipment with water immediately after use.

What to consider before purchase

• Intended scale and surface: best for small models and miniatures rather than large panels
• Surface preparation: priming and smoothing improve final metallic appearance
• Compatibility with existing paint layers and varnishes
• Drying time and room ventilation when airbrushing

Usage recommendations

For most realistic results, apply the True Metallic Metal Shade in thin layers over a mid-tone primer, then highlight raised areas with a lighter metallic or standard metallic paint. When airbrushing, thin incrementally and maintain consistent passes to avoid speckling.
