Description

VIRTUOS USB adapter EKN9001 connects POS cash drawers to a computer via USB without requiring an external power supply. It provides both trigger and status-monitoring functions and uses the Prolific PL2303TA chipset so recent Windows versions do not need additional drivers. The adapter also supports Linux and Android tablets (Android 4.2 and newer). For Virtuos cash drawers use an RJ12 24V cable (EPP12031A), which is included with Virtuos drawers or can be purchased separately.

Advantages

Compact and simple design enables easy integration with existing POS systems. The adapter powers directly from the USB port (5 V, max. 200 mA) so no external power adapter is necessary. It supports opening and monitoring drawer status through a virtual RS-232 serial port and works with 12 V and 24 V drawers using a falling voltage pulse. Broad OS compatibility includes Windows, Linux, macOS and Android.

How to use

Connect the adapter to the POS terminal via the USB A port and to the cash drawer using an RJ12 6p6c cable. If you use Virtuos drawers the RJ12 24V cable EPP12031A is supplied with the drawer; otherwise obtain a compatible RJ12 24V cable. The adapter appears as a virtual RS-232 serial port and can be controlled by POS software to open the drawer and report its status. Ensure the host system provides up to 200 mA on the USB port.

Usage recommendations

Do not attempt repeated rapid openings; allow at least 5 seconds between activations to let the internal capacitor recharge. Use the specified RJ12 24V cable for Virtuos drawers and verify OS compatibility if using older Windows releases where drivers may be required.
