Serial Converter Repeater Isolator W&T 86201
The Serial Converter Repeater Isolator W&T 86201 is a compact industrial device that converts an RS‑232 host interface to RS‑422 or RS‑485 lines while providing galvanic isolation. Designed for DIN‑rail mounting, the unit measures 22 mm wide, 75 mm deep and 105 mm high, and operates from a 12–24 V supply. It maintains reliable serial communication over extended distances and protects connected equipment from electrical interference.
The W&T 86201 combines a converter, repeater and isolator in a single compact module, reducing cabinet space requirements. Built‑in galvanic isolation prevents ground loops and protects devices from transients and noise common in industrial environments. Its narrow 22 mm housing and standard mounting allow easy integration into existing control cabinets. The device supports long‑distance serial links and is compatible with both RS‑422 and RS‑485 networks.
Mount the unit on a DIN rail in the control cabinet and connect the RS‑232 host to the device's RS‑232 terminal or connector. Wire the RS‑422/RS‑485 lines to the corresponding terminals following the polarity and termination requirements of the target network. Apply 12–24 V DC to the power input. Verify data direction and baud rate settings on connected equipment; the repeater function supports transparent signal forwarding without protocol conversion.
Install surge protection and proper cable screening in environments with high electromagnetic interference. If using RS‑485 in multi‑drop networks, ensure correct bus termination and biasing. Consult the device datasheet for detailed wiring diagrams and isolation ratings before installation.
