The XBS self-amalgamating insulation tape is a professional-grade solution engineered for the reliable sealing, insulation, and protection of electrical cable joints and connections. With a thickness of 0.75 mm, a width of 19 mm, and a length of 3 meters, this black tape is designed to fuse to itself upon application, forming a solid, homogeneous mass that provides an airtight and moisture-proof barrier. Its unique composition ensures long-term durability and resistance to environmental factors, making it an essential component for maintaining the integrity of electrical systems.
Advantages
The primary benefit of this self-amalgamating tape is its ability to create a seamless, unified seal that prevents moisture ingress and corrosion. Unlike standard adhesive tapes that rely on glue, this material bonds chemically to itself, ensuring that the connection remains secure even under challenging conditions. It offers excellent dielectric strength and flexibility, allowing it to conform easily to irregular shapes and complex cable geometries without losing its protective properties.
Suitable for
- Insulating and sealing electrical cable splices
- Repairing damaged cable sheaths
- Protecting automotive wiring harnesses from moisture
- General maintenance and repair tasks in electrical installations
When it may not be suitable
This tape is not intended for use as a primary mechanical support for heavy cables or in environments exposed to extreme chemical solvents that might degrade the rubber compound. It should not be used on energized circuits where the application process could pose a safety risk.
Key specifications
- Thickness: 0.75 mm
- Width: 19 mm
- Length: 3 meters
- Color: Black
- Material: Self-amalgamating rubber compound
How to use
To apply the tape, remove the protective liner and stretch the tape slightly to activate the self-fusing properties. Wrap the tape around the connection, overlapping each layer by approximately 50% to ensure a uniform seal. Continue wrapping until the desired thickness is achieved, ensuring the final layer is pressed firmly into place to complete the bond.
What to consider before purchase
- Ensure the cable surface is clean, dry, and free from oil or grease before application.
- Verify that the tape dimensions are sufficient for the diameter of the cable being repaired.
- Store the product in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to maintain its adhesive integrity.
Usage recommendations
For optimal performance, always maintain consistent tension while wrapping to ensure the layers fuse correctly into a solid, moisture-resistant barrier.
