Handheld bar code reader Zebra DS2278 1D/2D LED Black Wired Wireless
The Zebra DS2278 is a handheld bar code reader designed for mixed 1D and 2D scanning tasks in retail and inventory environments. Using LED imaging sensor technology, the device captures printed and on-screen bar codes, supports both wired (USB) and wireless (Bluetooth) connectivity, and has an IP42 rating for protection against dust and dripping water. The scanner is lightweight at approximately 214 g and uses a rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery with 2400 mAh capacity, providing a balance of portability and runtime for point-of-sale and backroom applications.
The DS2278 combines 1D and 2D capture in a single unit, eliminating the need for separate scanners for linear and matrix codes. Its LED imaging sensor enables reliable reading from labels and mobile device screens. Bluetooth plus USB options provide flexible integration into existing POS and inventory systems. The compact, lightweight design and rechargeable battery make the scanner suitable for both handheld and short-range cordless use, while the IP42 rating offers basic environmental protection for everyday retail and warehouse conditions.
Charge the DS2278 battery before first use and select wired or wireless mode according to your system setup. For USB operation, connect the scanner to a host device using the supplied cable; the scanner will act as a standard HID or configured interface. For Bluetooth, pair the scanner with the host device following the pairing procedure in the user manual. Aim the scanner at the barcode at a comfortable distance and press the trigger to activate the LED imager; the device will decode the symbol and transmit the data to the connected system. For best results, ensure labels are clean and screens are free of excessive glare or damage.
Use the DS2278 in a charged state for wireless shifts and keep the USB cable available for uninterrupted wired operation. Regularly inspect and clean the scan window to maintain read performance, and store the scanner in a dry environment when not in use to preserve the IP42-rated enclosure.
