Handheld bar code reader Motorola LS1203
The Motorola LS1203 handheld bar code reader is a laser-based 1D scanner designed for retail and inventory tasks. It reads common linear barcodes including GS1-128, Code 128, Code 39, Code 93, Codabar and Code 11. The scanner connects via USB and also supports RS232 and keyboard wedge interfaces, offering plug-and-play connectivity and easy integration with point-of-sale and PC systems. Its single-board construction and drop resistance reduce downtime and repair costs while the lightweight ergonomic housing supports extended use.
The LS1203 minimizes manual data entry and improves transaction accuracy by reliably capturing 1D barcodes at high speed. Durable single-board construction meets 5-foot drop tests for increased reliability. Multiple onboard interfaces (USB, RS232, keyboard wedge) simplify installation and future compatibility. The ergonomic, lightweight design and choice of triggered or continuous scanning modes reduce user fatigue and speed workflow.
Connect the LS1203 to the host system using the appropriate interface cable (USB, RS232 or keyboard wedge). Position the scanner so the laser aims at the barcode and press the trigger in triggered mode, or switch to continuous mode for hands-free scanning. Ensure the scanner is within recommended working distance from the barcode and align the laser across the full barcode to capture a clean read. The device operates with standard USB or serial drivers and requires minimal setup for plug-and-play operation.
The scanner is intended for 1D barcode capture; do not expect reliable performance on 2D matrix or stacked codes. For best results, keep the scanner lens clean, avoid extreme angles when aiming at barcodes, and choose triggered mode for occasional reads or continuous mode for high-volume scanning tasks.
