Security Device ABUS MK4200
The ABUS MK4200 is a robust aluminium magnetic opening detector designed for mounting on a wide range of materials, including steel and metal doors. With a compact form factor (19 x 18 x 80 mm), IP65 protection and a 1.2 m cable, the device detects unauthorised opening of large doors such as garage or industrial doors and reports the event to the alarm centre. The unit uses a normally-closed (NC) magnetic contact (reed) and a separate magnet mounted parallel to each other; when the distance between them increases the circuit opens and an alarm is generated. The MK4200 is VdS certified and built to withstand mechanical stress, including occasional contact from vehicles.
The aluminium housing provides mechanical robustness and resistance to impact and wear, while the IP65 rating ensures protection against dust and water. The normally-closed magnetic contact offers a simple and reliable switching principle with a high switching range. Installation is straightforward and the compact, lightweight design (170 g) makes integration into existing security systems easy. The device is specifically designed for steel and metal doors, with a construction that allows secure mounting on these materials.
Mount the magnetic contact and its magnet parallel to each other on the door leaf and frame (or corresponding mounting surfaces) so that in the closed position the reed and magnet are aligned. Ensure secure mechanical fastening appropriate for steel or metal surfaces, then route and connect the 1.2 m cable to the alarm panel following the panel manufacturer’s wiring diagram for a normally-closed contact. Verify correct operation by opening and closing the door and confirming the alarm panel registers the change of state when the gap between magnet and reed increases.
For reliable long-term operation, mount on clean, flat contact surfaces and use suitable fasteners for metal substrates. Avoid excessive paint or coating between magnet and reed. Periodically inspect the aluminium housing and cable entry for mechanical damage and check the contact operation during routine system tests.
