It is bidirectional, so it can also connect Thunderbolt 3 devices to Macs with Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt 2 ports running macOS Sierra or later. Note that connecting an Apple Thunderbolt Display requires an external power source because the display does not supply power through the adapter. This adapter does not support DisplayPort-only displays such as the Apple LED Cinema Display or third-party DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort displays.
