Drill bit AWTools HSS tapered for metal 16.0 mm ART000621
AWTools HSS tapered drill bit, 16.0 mm, is designed for cutting holes in metal with a tapered point that facilitates centring and progressive enlargement. Manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS), this drill bit offers wear resistance and maintains edge sharpness during drilling of both ferrous and non-ferrous metals. It is compatible with standard drill chucks and can be used in hand drills and drill presses for a range of metalworking tasks.
The HSS construction ensures high hardness and thermal resistance for longer life when drilling metal. The tapered geometry improves chip evacuation and reduces walking at the start of drilling, which results in more accurate hole placement. Its 16.0 mm diameter provides a balance between rigidity and cutting capacity for medium-sized holes in sheet metal, plates and fabricated parts. The drill’s shank and flutes are engineered to work reliably in common drilling setups.
Secure the workpiece and mark the drilling position. Fit the drill bit into a suitably rated chuck and tighten according to the drill’s instructions. Use appropriate spindle speed for HSS tooling and the thickness/type of metal being drilled. Apply steady feed pressure; allow the drill to cut without forcing to prevent overheating and premature wear. Periodically clear chips and, for thicker or harder metals, use cutting fluid to improve cooling and chip evacuation.
Use appropriate personal protective equipment (safety glasses, gloves) and select cutting speeds and lubrication suitable for the metal type. For improved hole accuracy, consider starting with a smaller pilot drill or centre punch before using the 16.0 mm tapered HSS bit.
