Threading tool AWTools AW20205, lightweight hand tool, 20 g
AWTools AW20205 is a lightweight hand threading tool designed for manual cutting of external right-hand metric threads. Made of HSS M2 high speed steel hardened to approximately 65 HRC, this compact tool targets small-scale precision threading tasks, repair jobs and hobby projects. The tool cuts threads in a single pass and is supplied in a protective plastic case for storage and transport.
The high-speed steel construction provides wear resistance and dimensional stability for repeated use in light workshop conditions. Its low mass (20 g) and compact profile make the tool easy to handle for delicate threading operations and reduce operator fatigue during short runs. The one-pass cutting capability simplifies workflow by producing a finished external metric thread in a single operation. The included plastic case protects the cutting edges and facilitates safe storage.
Secure the workpiece in a vice or suitable fixture to prevent movement. Apply suitable cutting fluid to the workpiece and the tool to reduce friction and improve finish. Align the tool perpendicular to the workpiece axis and start the cut with light, steady pressure until the thread engagement begins. Continue the single-pass cut maintaining a consistent feed and speed appropriate for the material. After cutting, back off the tool carefully to avoid damaging the thread profile, then clean and inspect the thread for correct form and fit.
Use appropriate cutting fluid for ferrous or non-ferrous materials, avoid excessive lateral force, and store the tool in its plastic case when not in use to protect the cutting edges. For repeatable results, check tool condition and sharpen or replace when wear affects thread quality.
