The AWTOOLS AW20245 threading tool is a manual die holder designed for cutting and repairing external threads on rods and bolts. Constructed from carbon alloy steel and aluminum, the tool provides a balance of strength and reduced weight. The removable, galvanized steel handles are knurled at the ends to improve grip during manual operation. The die holder is compatible with both closed and slotted round dies and features an adjustable die retention mechanism secured by five screws for precise, rigid clamping in accordance with DIN 225.
The combination of carbon alloy steel and aluminum delivers durability while keeping the overall weight low, making the threading tool easier to handle for extended tasks. Galvanized, removable handles enhance corrosion resistance and allow for compact storage or replacement. The five-screw adjustable die clamp ensures stable positioning of the round die, reducing runout and improving thread quality. Knurled handle ends provide a firmer grip and better control during manual threading operations.
Select an appropriate round die (closed or slotted) matching the required thread size and insert it into the die holder. Position the die centrally, then tighten the five retaining screws incrementally and evenly to achieve rigid clamping. Install the removable handles if needed and secure them. Align the workpiece and apply cutting oil to the die and thread start to reduce friction. Rotate the holder steadily, advancing the die onto the workpiece to cut or reform threads, and periodically reverse slightly to clear chips. After use, clean the die holder, remove shavings and apply light corrosion protection to the metal surfaces before storage.
For best results, use appropriate cutting fluid and ensure the die is correctly sized for the workpiece. Tighten retaining screws evenly to prevent die distortion, and replace or refurbish handles if excessive wear or corrosion is observed. Store the tool dry to maintain galvanized and alloy surfaces.
