Drill Bit AWTools AW40320 — AW40320, weight 35 g
AWTools AW40320 drill bit is a compact, dual-function accessory designed for pilot hole drilling and countersinking in a single operation. Made of high-speed HSS steel with a blackened finish, this lightweight 35 g bit is intended as a replacement or spare for compatible quick-change chucks. Its geometry and material make it suitable for precision work and general-purpose drilling in a range of wood-based materials.
The HSS steel construction provides durability and heat resistance during repeated use, while the blackened surface reduces glare and offers basic corrosion protection. The combined pilot-drill-and-countersink design saves time by creating a hole ready for screw insertion without changing tools. Its compact form and low weight improve handling and reduce operator fatigue in repetitive assembly tasks. Inclusion of a small hex wrench allows easy adjustment of the countersink depth for different screw heads and material thicknesses.
Install the bit into a compatible 1/4" quick-change chuck and secure it according to the tool manufacturer's instructions. Adjust the countersink depth with the supplied hex wrench to match the screw head profile and material thickness. Position the bit perpendicular to the work surface and drill at a controlled speed appropriate for the material—lower speeds for hard wood and higher speeds for softer materials. Apply steady pressure; the bit will create a pilot hole and countersink in a single pass, after which a screw can be driven into the prepared hole.
Use cutting lubricant sparingly only when drilling very hard or resinous woods; avoid excessive side pressure to prevent premature wear. Check the countersink depth on a scrap piece before working on final parts, and periodically inspect the bit for wear or dulling to maintain consistent hole quality.
