Drill bit AWTools AW40322 — metal/wood drilling, 40 g weight
The AWTools AW40322 drill bit is a single multi-function bit designed for metal and wood drilling tasks. Made of high-speed HSS steel with a blackened finish, the bit combines pilot hole drilling and countersinking in one operation, allowing immediate screw insertion without separate preparation. The compact 40 g bit is compatible with 1/4" quick-change chucks and is suitable for a range of workshop, construction and DIY applications where a reliable, all-in-one drilling and countersinking solution is required.
The high-speed HSS steel construction ensures wear resistance and sustained cutting performance in both hard and soft materials. The integrated pilot and countersink geometry reduces operation time by producing the pilot hole and countersink in a single pass. The blackened surface treatment improves corrosion resistance and reduces glare during use. A small hex wrench is included to adjust the countersink depth for precise screw seating.
Install the drill bit into a compatible 1/4" quick-change chuck and tighten securely. Set the desired countersink depth by loosening or tightening the adjustment screw with the supplied hex wrench, then test on a scrap piece to verify screw seating. Position the bit perpendicular to the work surface, start drilling at a moderate speed, and apply steady pressure until the pilot hole and countersink are formed. After drilling, insert the screw and check that the head sits flush or to the desired depth; readjust the countersink height if needed.
Use appropriate drilling speeds and steady feed rates for the material: lower speeds for hard woods and higher speeds for soft woods and chipboard. Wear eye protection and follow standard safety practices when drilling. For repeated production use, inspect the cutting edges regularly and replace the bit when wear affects hole quality.
