Drill Bit AWTools M2 HSS-TiN 3 mm Split Point Xtreme (Black Line)
AWTools Drill Bit M2 HSS-TiN 3 mm Split Point Xtreme (Black Line) is a precision metalworking drill designed for professional use. Made from M2 high-speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating and featuring the Split Point Xtreme geometry, this 3 mm bit delivers controlled entry, reduced walking and improved wear resistance. The Black Line finish lowers friction and helps maintain cutting performance over repeated use, producing cleaner holes in steel, stainless steel, aluminum and other ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
This drill bit combines M2 HSS material and a TiN coating to provide a balance of hardness and toughness for drilling into metals. The Split Point Xtreme tip geometry gives fast, accurate centering without the need for pilot holes, minimizing wobble and reducing surface damage. The Black Line surface finish improves lubrication and reduces heat generation during drilling, extending tool life and maintaining hole quality over multiple operations.
This 3 mm HSS-TiN bit is intended for metalworking and is not optimized for masonry, concrete, wood or carbide-intensive tasks. For very large-diameter holes, high-volume production where carbide or cobalt solid-carbide tooling is standard, or for continuous high-speed machining at elevated temperatures, alternative drill materials and coatings may be more appropriate.
Select appropriate spindle speed and feed for a 3 mm HSS drill in the material being machined; lower speeds for stainless steel and higher speeds for softer metals like aluminum. Secure the workpiece, use proper clamping, and start drilling with light pressure until the split point locates the center. Maintain steady feed and cooling where required—apply cutting fluid for tougher alloys and to extend tool life. Retract occasionally to clear chips when drilling through thicker sections or stacked plates.
For best results, use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel or alloys, choose correct spindle speed for the material, and replace the bit when wear degrades hole quality. The Split Point Xtreme tip reduces the need for center punching, but for maximum precision on thin or tricky surfaces, a light center punch or pilot hole may still be helpful.
