Drill Bit AWTools M2 HSS-TiN 10 mm Split Point Xtreme (Black Line)
AWTools Drill Bit M2 HSS-TiN 10 mm Split Point Xtreme (Black Line) is a solid high-speed steel twist drill designed for accurate metal drilling. The M2 HSS substrate provides strength and heat resistance for demanding drilling tasks, while the titanium nitride (TiN) coating increases surface hardness and extends tool life. The Split Point geometry reduces walking on the workpiece, enabling quicker centring and cleaner hole starts when used in hand drills or drill presses.
The TiN coating enhances wear resistance and reduces friction, which helps maintain cutting performance over a longer service life. Split Point tip geometry minimises wandering and decreases the need for centre-punching on many metal surfaces. Made from M2 high-speed steel, the drill bit offers improved toughness and heat tolerance compared with carbon-steel bits, making it better suited for repeated metal drilling operations.
This 10 mm M2 HSS-TiN bit is designed for drilling metals and is not optimised for masonry, concrete, ceramic tiles or glass; using it on such materials will result in poor performance and possible tool damage. For very hard alloys or hardened steels, carbide or cobalt-specific drills may be more appropriate to maintain acceptable tool life and cutting speed.
Secure the drill bit in the chuck ensuring correct alignment and adequate clamping. Select a drilling speed appropriate for the metal type and drill diameter—moderate RPMs for larger diameters and harder materials—and apply steady feed pressure without excessive force. Use cutting fluid or lubricant to reduce heat and improve chip evacuation when drilling steels and alloys. For accurate starts, especially on smooth or curved surfaces, a centre punch or light pilot dimple can be used even though the Split Point reduces walking.
Use cutting fluid for improved life and hole quality, start at lower speed when drilling harder steels, and inspect the tip for wear—regrind or replace when chipping or excessive dulling is observed to maintain accuracy and safety.
