Drill bit AWTools AW42858 — AWTools AW42858, standard twist drill bit
AWTools AW42858 is a standard twist drill bit designed for general drilling in masonry and hard materials. Constructed with a 40CR alloy steel body and a YG8C tungsten carbide head, this drill bit is made for use with handheld drills, hammer drills and rotary impact hammer drills. The 2-cutter spiral design and grooved SDS+ shank make it suitable for repeated light construction, maintenance and DIY tasks where reliable penetration in concrete, brick, natural stone, granite and ceramic tiles is required.
The combination of a 40CR alloy steel shank and a YG8C carbide tip provides a durable cutting edge and improved wear resistance for drilling into abrasive materials. The 2-cutter spiral geometry ensures efficient removal of spoil, reduces vibration and lowers the risk of overheating during prolonged use. The grooved SDS+ shank secures the bit in the drill chuck to prevent slipping or accidental ejection under impact, while maintaining quick bit changes. Compatibility with hammer and rotary impact hammer drills increases versatility across a range of jobs.
Install the AWTools AW42858 into an SDS+ compatible chuck according to the drill manufacturer's instructions, ensuring the shank is fully engaged and locked. Select an appropriate drilling mode: rotary impact or hammer setting for hard masonry and concrete, or rotary-only for brittle ceramic tiles to reduce the risk of cracking. Begin drilling at low speed to establish the hole, then apply steady, moderate pressure while maintaining alignment. Periodically withdraw the bit to clear debris and allow cooling; when drilling deep holes use intermittent drilling to avoid overheating the carbide tip.
Use personal protective equipment including safety glasses and hearing protection. For ceramic tiles, consider starting with a pilot hole and use lower impact settings. Match drill speed and feed to the material: higher impact/low speed for concrete and masonry, lower impact/controlled speed for tiles and granite. Replace the bit if the carbide tip becomes chipped or the bit shows excessive wear.
