2" Moon & Skyglow Filter Beta model 2458334A
The 2" Moon & Skyglow Filter Beta model 2458334A is an optical accessory for telescopes that reduces scattered moonlight and urban skyglow to improve contrast during planetary and lunar observations. Designed for 2-inch focusers and eyepieces, the filter helps to minimize glare and enhance perceived detail on bright lunar features and planetary disks while maintaining natural color balance. It is suitable for visual observing sessions under partially bright skies.
The filter provides measurable reduction of background sky brightness and moon glare without significant color shift, improving contrast and visual comfort. Its 2" diameter design ensures compatibility with standard 2-inch focusers and eyepieces. The optical surface is engineered to preserve image sharpness and fine detail while blocking a portion of scattered light from the sky.
Insert the filter into a compatible 2" eyepiece holder or screw it into a 2" eyepiece barrel if threaded. Make sure the filter is clean and free of dust or smudges before use; handle by the edges to avoid fingerprints. Place the filter between the telescope and the eyepiece so that light entering the eyepiece passes through the filter element. Adjust focus after installing the filter, as some slight focus change may occur. Use the filter during nights with bright moonlight or visible skyglow to notice improved contrast on lunar features and planetary details.
For best results, clean the optical surfaces with a soft, lint-free cloth and appropriate optical cleaner, and store the filter in a protective case when not in use. If observing faint deep-sky objects, remove the filter since it reduces overall light transmission. When in doubt, test the filter with different eyepieces and magnifications to find the combination that yields the best contrast for your telescope and local sky conditions.
