Console Server Black Box LES1604A RS-232 SSH 32MB Flash 256MB RAM
The Black Box LES1604A Console Server with Cisco pinout provides reliable out-of-band remote access and monitoring for routers, switches, PDUs, firewalls and other serial devices. Compact and purpose-built for data centers and remote sites, it supports RS-232 serial connections, USB 2.0 console access for Cisco USB consoles, dual Gigabit Ethernet ports for network redundancy, and onboard storage and logging. The unit is designed for secure SSH access, with 32 MB flash and 256 MB DDR3 RAM, and operates from a 12 V DC input or AC power with a typical consumption of 11.5 W.
The console server simplifies out-of-band management by providing a separate access path to critical infrastructure independent of the primary data network, improving fault recovery and uptime. Dual Ethernet ports enable automatic failover between primary and secondary networks, while USB and RS-232 ports allow direct connectivity to modern and legacy consoles. Built-in logging, environmental monitoring support and vendor-neutral power control enable remote troubleshooting and power cycling without site visits.
Install the LES1604A in a rack or remote cabinet and connect RS-232 or USB console cables to the devices you need to manage. Connect the primary and secondary networks to the dual Gigabit Ethernet ports to enable automatic failover. Configure SSH access and user accounts according to your security policies, then enable logging and any environmental monitoring or power-management features you require. Use the embedded AJAX terminal for direct USB console access and the web-based dashboard or CLI for status monitoring, alerts and remote command execution.
Place the unit on a secure network segment dedicated to out-of-band access and restrict SSH access via IP allowlists and strong authentication. Regularly back up configuration and log files to remote storage and verify failover behavior between the two Ethernet ports during maintenance windows.
