Twist drill bit Bosch Metal drill bit HSS-G DIN 338
The Bosch Metal drill bit HSS-G DIN 338 is a 6 mm high-speed steel twist drill designed for drilling metal. It is manufactured to deliver precise, durable performance in metalworking tasks and is suitable for use in a single-piece drill bit holder or standard chuck. The HSS-G geometry and precision grinding make it appropriate for professional and workshop use when working with a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
Precision-ground HSS-G cutting edges provide up to 40% faster drilling rates and up to 50% lower feed pressure compared with standard-ground HSS drill bits with a chisel edge. The self-centring split point eliminates the need for pre-punching or pilot drilling for diameters up to 10 mm. The drill bit is suitable for use in both alloyed and non-alloyed steels up to 900 N/mm² tensile strength and also performs on cast steel, cast iron, sintered iron, malleable cast iron, non-ferrous metals and hard plastics.
Secure the twist drill bit in the drill chuck or holder ensuring correct centring and clamping. Select an appropriate spindle speed and feed rate for the 6 mm HSS-G drill and the material being drilled; higher speeds are generally suitable for non-ferrous metals and plastics, while lower speeds reduce heat when drilling steels and cast irons. Apply steady, even pressure; the precision-ground split point reduces the need for pilot holes up to 10 mm but for best results use cutting fluid when machining steels and harder cast materials to extend tool life and improve chip removal.
Use suitable cutting fluid when drilling steel and cast iron to reduce heat and wear. Inspect the drill bit for wear and replace when the cutting edges become dull to maintain drilling accuracy and prevent workpiece damage.
